Newday Impacts Derby!
It’s been more than three months since 5000 young people packed up their tents after an incredible week at Newday. But how did the week affect the city?
Jubilee Church Derby was thrilled to coordinate the outreach at Newday this summer, when 500 young people went in to Derby each afternoon over five days to work on 12 community and evangelistic projects across the city. These involved anything from cutting hedges, painting over graffiti and clearing rubbish to direct sharing of the gospel in the city centre and inviting people along to an Alpha Course and guest service.
Graham Pyman, leader of Jubilee Church said, “
Newday in the City has given us a great opportunity to be resourced in our mission to reach the city of Derby with the gospel. We were so impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment of the young people and are looking forward to their help again next year.”
Since the event took place, Jubilee church have followed up approximately 200 contact cards, and currently have some of these contacts on an
Alpha course. They have also had other Christians join their church as a result of the publicity and they have faith that there is much fruit still to come.
Several other Derby churches are working alongside Jubilee with
Newday in the City and they are hoping for more churches to partner with them next year.
Newday is a great demonstration of
Newfrontiers working with the wider body of Christ to impact a city.
