Newfrontiers on the BBC!

Believe it or not, but every week Songs of Praise is watched by around 4 million people! Whilst many of the programmes have fairly traditional content, the BBC is experimenting with an occasional contemporary version.

Last Bonfire Night the programme was hosted by City Church in Newcastle with some twenty churches taking part. Diane Louise Jordan presented with personal but powerful interviews. Davy, a converted Tyneside gangster, told how Jesus had met with him. Catherine, who went on a Life Change Team to South Africa told the moving story of her plans to adopt a disabled child. And Alan and Susan from County Church in Northumberland warmed everyone's heart as Alan had been able to donate a kidney for his wife.

Many young people gathered and the sight of them worshipping with Stuart Townend and the band was engaging. The church is looking to a great future and this came over very clearly in the programme. It would make an ideal conversation starter for friends, relations or small groups. If you would like a recording of the evening, contact the Newcastle church office.
